The British year is marked by various festivals, some ancient, some more recent, and they all have unique customs and feasts. From New Year’s Day and Twelfth Night to May Day and Whitsuntide; from Midsummer and Lammas to Hallowe’en and Christmas: each festival is celebrated with certain, often seasonal, dishes which accompany rites, rituals and activities which family and friends can enjoy.
Click or tap the illustrations below to find out more about each festival and discover the dishes to make and the activities to take part in. Festivals are an important part of the cultural heritage of the British Isles and celebrating them connects us, not only to the seasons, but to our past.
